I noticed that shakira's mainly motivated by new things to accomplish and once she masters them, she just loses her intrest.

Examples:

- Production: she wanted to be the main producer/songwriter of her songs and that's something she definitely fought for, but once she achieved this goal, she didn't have a problem with other producers and songwriters. She could accept them.

- Recognision in the American market: Laundry Service - remember how focused and dedicated she was? Whenever, wherever video is a great example of how far she could go. Now she knows that it's something she can achieve so she seems less interested.

- English: Now that she speaks English fluently (well, she can be quite eloquent) she doesn't care as much as she used to.

- Radio hits: She-wolf didn't do as well comercially as her previous albums. Loca was her answer. It was a big hit almost all over the world, so she wasn't as interested in Rabiosa (it took her a while to release the video)

Well, I guess that's because she's quite clever and in my opinion, she might have some mild form of adhd so she needs some adrenaline to keep her going... but I wonder if that means that we'll never see her as motivated as she used to be.

I feel that she just wants to accomplish as much as possible by any means necessary. Her music has already achieved so much by converging different cultures/sounds and I think her driving force continues to be creativity within her music. I don't think she's lost her motivation, she's just found different channels by which to accomplish what she wants. Her role as a producers hasn't dwindled as much as we think - she is still credited as a producer on every single track off of She Wolf & Sale El Sol. Sure, she may have expanded her usage of other producers, but she's still there doing the work. She isn't listed as the sole producer on ANY of her albums, she's always co-produced. She just happened to work with different people on her last 2 albums, nothing's really changed.

As for the English market, I feel that she's comfortable where she's at and doesn't care too much about it since she has a worldwide following pretty much locked down. Yeah, she might have been more visible in the U.S. during the LS era, but I feel that she's more interested in her worldwide brand than just focusing on the U.S. where she's still doing remarkably well considering the limitations she's faced (lack of promotion, etc.).

The English part I don't understand. Are you saying that she doesn't understand that English is of importance to her career? What do you want her to learn? She already has a firm grasp of the language, what else should she do? If you're talking about her accent, I feel that it fluctuates quite a bit - it is sometimes very heavy (usually after she's promoted a Spanish album - i.e. Sale El Sol or when she's spent a lot of time in a Spanish speaking country - i.e. Spain), but other times it's less jagged. I don't think there's anything wrong with her English, she's still able to communicate efficiently & usually more eloquently than her peers that have known English longer than she has.

Radio hits...again, this to me seems to be of little importance to her. She hasn't really done heavy radio promotion since LS (although she did quite a bit during She Wolf also) and I feel that as long as people hear the music (via any means) she's happy. I don't think she cares all that much about having 1 song being played on the radio all the time. In Spanish radio, they play all her songs (and I do mean ALL of them even MTV Unplugged performances) and I think her ultimate goal is to continue that, but English radio is all about what's hot/in at the moment so she doesn't place much importance on it.

I would completely agree with the above statement. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Anyone denying Shakira has lost (some of her) motivation is deluded, as it is painfully obvious she has. But this comes naturally with her status. She's already established who she is and what she stands for as an artist so why over do it?*

*I'm guessing this would be her reasoning. Personally, I'd like her to still over do it.

Ok, perhaps I didn't express myself clearly and I can understand that native speakers might find the English part problematic to comprehend.

So, again, here's the premise:

- Shakira's brain needs the fuel to keep going. Something she can obsess about till she gets it right. She's competing with herself, not with the world so when she gets something right, it's no longer a source of adrenaline/dopamine because she proved to herself that she can do it.

So:

Learning a foreign language fluently, to the native-like level, isn't easy. No matter how intelligent you are, it's still a puzzle that takes time. So I guess it's safe to assume that for a few years, English was a constant source of adrenaline/dopamine for her. But not anymore since she got it right, so she doesn't care as much (isn't she now more interested in French?).And let's not forget that she spent years living with Antonio and I doubt they were talking in English.

I'm not criticizing Shakira at all and I'm definitely not trying to argue whether she's still capable of doing what she did in the past or not. I'm just saying that now she's not fighting with blood, sweat and tears for the same things she used to. Yes, she still co-produces and co-writes, she still does her job, but she doesn't have that... unstoppable devotion anymore. She has new obsessions. Her brain has new toys. I'm just trying to understand Shakira so there's no need to defend her because I'm not some sort of whiny fan. I really think she's a fascinating person to observe.

The voice is a great example of how much she needs that adrenaline rush. That's when she's at her best

SO

I think it's just a human nature. When you set up your goals or learn new things you are highly motivated. When you achieve your goal, you are looking for new things to do. And this what have you done before doesn't enjoying you anymore. I remember when I started my studies I was so excited and after 4 years I'm not so keen on it, so I'm looking for new possibilities.

What about Shakira, her career is steady, she has got good reputation and doesn't have to fight until last drop of her blood. Now she is a mother and she should focus her attention on Milan, cause he needs her. Shakira could compete with everyone when she was single and young (what she did and she succeed ). Now she can realize her plans, but she doesn't need to prove anything.

Well, some people definitely enjoy doing the same trick over and over again. They just like attention.

One more thing - Milan has a father as well but somehow I can't see anyone telling Pique to quit his career because he has a baby at home. Shakira is an adult. No one here is in the position to tell her what to do in her personal life.
