I would like to start a topic about one of my favorite bands, I think they where mentioned in this forum occasionally, so it couldwork to get some life into this thread Posted Image and I think they are not so unknown in general.

Muse makes very fine music compared with extremelygood vocals. The Lead singer, Matt Bellamy, has a wired but good vibrato voice, nothing unfamiliar for a shaki fan :) , the other two members are Dom on the drumsand Chris on the bass.

Here two catchy songs:

New Album "The 2nd Law" out mid September.

Official single of "The 2nd Law" "Madness" just dropped

At first listen i didn't like it much but it's a grower, it was same with Survival

It's sounds very like U2/Queen/Guns 'n' Roses/ Skrillex mashup

i've always liked muse, they have had interesting and dynamic music for years, BUT their olympic song and their newest single sound absolutely horrible. the former sounds like someone just said, here's a million dollars, make the most obvious and tacky sounding theme you possibly can and be "weird" about it. its like trying to be a strange song just for teh sake of it with no thought behind it. the latter is boring, thoughtless, and not even interesting enough to be bad, its just boring. so far i'm really disappointed and not super excited for the new album. i listen to rock and alternative because good artists really put a lot of heart and thought and detail into their stuff, and i can't help but feel like muse has suddenly decided to cop out on all of that.

To me they are trying to establish themselves as Queen-sucessors, it already started with last album. I think they are a bit testing how popular they can get.
I was ok with the olympic song, it was quite fitting for the event. Madness is not uninteresting to me, but I would have never expected it as a first single. I´m really curios how the album will sound, all released songs had significant build ups, I don´t know how this will fit together on the album.

I think this will be a great album, Muse never dissapoints, and i think it's good that they explore new sounds and styles. I mean with Resistance album i like how they combined classical music with rock and space rock; Exogenesis: Symphony 1,2 and 3 sounds out of this world good. For me their best albums are Absolution and Origin of Symmetry.

Something I specially love are the strong basslines they can pull of, this really can make a song. I´m really excited for the new album, although its a pitty that so many albums of my favorite artists are out this year, 2014/15 might turn out a bit boring music wise.

Here is a short description of the songs from ROCKZONE magazine

Posted Image

  • Supremacy: It’s the perfect song to open a Muse album, it offers what you expect from them. It has a seventies guitar riff and it sounds like a James Bond film. Matt Bellamy screams like he was Robert Plant.
  • Madness: A change of direction. A basic song with a very good pop melody that reminds us to “Under Pressure” by Queen. The guitar sounds also like Queen’s “I Want to Break Free”. It makes sense it’s the first single.
  • Panic Station: Again, the Queen Influence is evident in this song, it has a disco bass line. It could be a real hit on the dance floor.
  • Prelude: An Anecdotal orchestral intro.
  • Survival: The Olympic song that shows us Muse in their most epic version, again heavily influenced by Queen, with a neoclassical piano line and a choir.
  • Follow Me: This song has a Musical feeling in the verses, but when the chorus starts it becomes a song you can dance to. Smells like single material.
  • Animals: A dark song with clean bass and clean guitars. Sounds a bit like Radiohead.
  • Explorers: A standard piano ballad. The melodramatic chorus where Bellamy sings “Free me from this world” could have been written by Keane.
  • Big Freeze: Good rock song with a guitar that reminds us to The Edge.
  • Save Me: One of the first Chris’s songs. This is a nice slow song, where Chris shows he can sing in falsetto too... The song is a bit too long, though.
  • Liquid State: The other song by Chris, which explains why the strong bass line is the highlight of the song. It passes unnoticed.
  • The 2nd Law. Unsustainable: It’s an instrumental song that opens with epic violins and a choir, that are interrupted by the controversial dubstep part. This song can be great live.
  • The 2nd Law. Isolated System: Another instrumental song, it closes with a piano as the main instrument, it reminds us slightly to The Exorcist main theme, the song also has a voice talking over the instrumental part.

I like the vid, they managed to give the song an additional rocky and crazy edge, it had the potential to be very cheesy, but they did well.
Chris seems to play a Kitara, maybe they decided that he should get more spotlight on the new album, with Matt on family duty. According to the article above he seems that he is going to sing two songs as well.

They have performed Madness live on a scandinavian TV-show. Very good and the instrument Chris played is insane, a combination of Bass, Keytar and Kaosboard all-in-one, like a multi-neck-guitar.

I think die hard Muse fans will be very disapointed.

There are mostly slow songs and ballads on this record.

My favourites:
Supermacy
Madness
Panic Station (very RHCP sounding)
Fallow me
Animals
Big Freeze

I think that the two songs that Chris sang (Save me and Liquid State) are a total miss

I´m was expecting slow songs and ballads to be honest, all releases so far where very strongly pointing in this direction and its going to be a very unique album. Not really a problem to me now, maybe if I had expected a more energetic album. I´m waiting for the normal release Posted Image to hear the songs, so still a week to go until I can say more.

Eh they're alright - to me they sound like a more mainstream Radiohead for some reason, except Radiohead is ions ahead of them as far as melodies, instrumentation, songwriting is concerned. But hey, Shakira likes them! :P

They certainly have some similarities, its a big influence to them as well. Others are Justice, a modern metal band(can´t remember the name) and Queen recently.
btw. Radiohead is really good and they have amazing skills, although they never made it to my favorites, its music I can enjoy with my head but not really with my heart.

The album is very good, they copycated a bit from Queen and a harder track before or between the last 4 tracks would be good for the structure, but in general they did very well. Panic Station is my favorite track of 2012 so far.

Btw.: Muse played a great gig at the Itunes festival, you can (re-)watch it via Itunes or app.

Is it just me or do the intro of Follow me sounds very similar to Knight of Cydonia and a bit of Resistance intro.

EDIT:

And i hear a bit of I Will Survive in the song.
