Of course she's a 90s artist...she was already huge beginning in 1995 (even in the US on Latin radio).

Is she really a 90s artist though? I think most would say her big breakthrough was WW and that was 2001. HDL solidified her status as a legend and that was 2006. I realize there was music before 2001 and obviously there has been a lot more since then, but I would characterize her as an early-2000s artist... Either way it doesn't take anything away from what she has accomplished or the ability to remain relevant after many years.

Most of your posts are clever, but this is the complete OPPOSITE.

I didn't mean to be clever or anything else. I live in the US and the first time I heard Shakira was Whenever Wherever in 2001. She grew on me and my country in the early 2000s so that's why I suggested she's an early 2000s artist (instead of 90s). Like I also said though that doesn't take away from the great work she did in the 90s. I didn't mean to offend anyone. I was just saying that most Americans didn't know her in the 90s and would think of her as an early 2000s artist.

She's kind of both. She probably benefits from being both a 90s artist to Spanish speaking countries (which makes her a living legend) and a 2000s artist to the rest of the world (still makes her seem young).

The US and the Anglo countries aren't the center of the world. She was known in about 21 countries (aka Latin America plus Spain) before the 2000s, which is more than a lot of "big" US artists could say even now.

She had buzz/media coverage as the new Latin superstar here in Europe, especially Germany, France, Switzerland in the 90's. I knew her name and some of her songs before 2000.

She's an early 2000s artist! Of course she debuted and conquered Latinamerica (and Latin Billboards charts) in mids 90s, and was a megastar here but the world knows who Shakira is after Laundry Service arguably one of the Top 5 Biggest Female Debuts of the past decade! Same goes for P!nk, Beyoncé and Gwen (as a solo artist).

Then I'm considering Shakira, Britney, Xtina, JLo, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Avril Lavigne, Nelly Furtado and P!nk as the same generation girls!

Why would you say that? Just because I had an experience different than your's? I thought this forum was about sharing our experiences. I might be wrong but it doesn't make me ignorant or racist/xenophobic. It's just my opinion...and I even said other people outside the US might feel differently.

That's a little harsh. I don't think he was trying to insult Shakira or anything. It's just that the US market is too undeniably large for music for it to not mean something. I mean, there's a reason why stars usually try to crossover, even from the UK for instance.
