Thanx 4 posting the review!!!

Tim Chipping 21 March 2007, 10:31 AM

The last time we saw Shakira live, she sang straight into our face and made us embarrassed. We're a bit too far away for that this time but her connection with the audience is still as intimate, despite Wembley Arena's cavernous expanse. On a trip out along the ego-run (ironic for someone who shows so little sign of self-importance) Shakira appears to be enjoying slapping fans' hands as much as they are. Possibly more.
But we're getting ahead of ourselves. This is show number 100 of the 'Oral Fixation' tour. Yet what is immediately apparent is how much fun Shakira is having. She's utterly captivating, sometimes ridiculous, but always engrossing to watch as she flits between ribcage defying isolations and mock-rockstar poses, before goofing off, flirting, then re-emerging in breathtaking costume to be (as our gig companion coined) 'the Colombian Kate Bush'.

If one were to script just a small section of this show it would read something like:
Shakira runs and jumps barefoot to the front of the stage, slides her back down the entire length of the mic stand before panther walking her way forward, then rises to perform a harmonica solo!

Who else could that describe? And that's without mentioning the pink glitter guitar; the breathtaking red dress, that expands to form a giant tulip, flame or butterfly at the flick of Shakira's wrists; the inexplicable contact improv dance routine, to Erik Satie's 'Gymnopedie No. 1'; the rope dance for 'Whenever, Wherever'; the Salome veil dance; or the Bollywood belly dancers for 'Hips Don't Lie'. And, and, and...

What sets Shakira apart from Britney, Madonna or Beyonce (apart from being more popular internationally, and smarter, and prettier, OK, we'll stop) is instead of going nuts, religious or boring, Shakira just seems to get nicer, happier, better. But all the time she's still the complete artist. The real deal. The people's popstar.

Tell me all your wishes
I am here to make them true, don't wonder

My new resolution is to trust you
My business to love you until you've had it
I'm not gonna miss out on the good stuff

The set-list for the concert ... was it performed in the same order as all the European countries ... (it was wasn't it?!? - memory just being stupid atm!)

Europe

01 Estoy Aquí
02 Te Dejo Madrid
03 Don't Bother
04 Illegal
05 Inevitable
06 Si Te Vas
07 La Tortura
08 No
09 Whenever, Wherever
10 La Pared
11 Underneath Your Clothes
12 Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos
13 Ciega, Sordomuda
14 Ojos Así
15 Hips Don't Lie

She sang Don't Bother before Te Dejo Madrid.

I rememebr because I thought she may have left te dejo madrid out. I would have been upset!!

Review from yahoo! Music Not bad either

It's quite the thing nowadays for indie kids to be into pop. Mostly this is because commercial pop music has simply got much better: there would have been little reason for people to mount a spirited defence of Sinitta or Bros, but now they'll fall over themselves to tell you of their deep respect for Girls Aloud and Britney Spears.

So why, when your Yahoo! Music told friends she would be attending Shakira's London gig, was she greeted with sharp intakes of breath? What, after all, is not to love about a hip-shaking Colombian midget with deranged lyrics and a voice akin to a cat being boiled? The problem is that Shakira lacks that sugar coating of camp that would allow the tasteful to swallow her earnest Latin pop. She appears to tick the boxes, yet doesn't quite fit.

She's pretty, but not hyper-glossed, airbrushed dazzling. She's sexy, make no mistake, yet delivers her most famous ballad, "Underneath Your Clothes" in baggy black cargo pants a decade out of fashion, barefoot, flesh covered to a degree that would bring Christina Aguilera out in a cold sweat. Her music, too, often has more in common with the angsty guitar pop of Alanis Morrisette or Michelle Branch than the hard-faced fembots of today's charts. She wiggles her super-mobile hips along the knife-edge between 'pop' and 'naff'.

One thing she is clearly not lacking, however, is talent. Anyone who has witnessed the desperate spectacle of Girls Aloud attempting to stay in tune live will appreciate the difference in style/substance ratios. Shakira's voice is strong and impressive, even more so on the Spanish language numbers where its unique tones sound more at home. Moreover, she can shimmy her not-at all-mountainesque breasts without moving her waist, shoulders or hips, which is not something Cheryl Tweedy can boast of. It's a shame, then, that not all of the songs are up to her talents.

For every all-conquering stomper like "Whenever, Wherever", there's three or four generic ballads that all the face-pulling emoting in the world cannot save. Much of her material sounds dated, which would explain the notable lack of teens in the audience. "Don't Bother" is a genuinely impressive pop-rock belter, reminiscent of Pink, and closer "Hips Don't Lie" is as compelling as Shakira's skeleton-defying writhings. She sure puts on a show, as well, from the minutes the lights drop right on cue to the climax of The Who's "Baba O'Riley" to the confetti-canon finale at the end of the night.

In between, she mixes old numbers, which elicit feverish responses from the sizeable South American contingent down the front, with newer hits in English and shows off her many other talents: Shakira does bellydance! Shakira does ballet! Shakira plays a guitar solo! And even when she gets her band seated in a circle campfire-style, for an acoustic rendition of "Illegal", it's hard not to love her for her gaucheness. Viva el naff!
