I kinda hoped Shakira would be ready to leave her home sometime soon, but she's still hiding.

Im not really getting the references in Suerte/WW. About UYC, the video, yeah, but not in the song itself and its classy in the video, not cheesy.

Lucky you were born that far away so

We could both make fun of distance (Antonio is Argentine, Shakira is Colombian)
Lucky that I love a foreign land for
The lucky fact of your existence
(foreign land would be Argentina in this case)
Baby I would climb the Andes solely
To count the freckles on your body (cheesy line about how she'd metaphorically climb the mountains that separate their respective countries just so she'd see him)

Suerte is pretty much the same translation where she makes specific references to Antonio, and anybody who knew about her relationship back then would have gotten them. I'm not saying that UYC was cheesy, I think it's one of Shakira's best songs but she made it clear who it was for & in the music video. Anyway, there's plenty of other examples Pre-Pique, all I'm saying is that it's always been part of Shakira's style to include specific references (some of them pretty corny) about her life into her lyrics. That's how she's known as a songwriter. I mean, we're talking about the same girl that was able to incorporate her gratitude for having small breasts that can't be confused with mountains in a hit song lol. Me enamore has that same Shaki-esque vibe to it imo.

so i finally gave this a full listen yesterday and it's the most conflicted i've been over a shakira song in a while. first off, *why* does she keep shoving her personal life into our ears? as fun as it may be, the song is not even remotely relatable and it's a frustrating feeling seeing her continue to do this. one of the things i always liked identifying with as a fan of hers was that she tended to keep her private life private but she's gone full taylor swift now. and it stings because you better believe she's a whole lot more capable as a writer than that.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Fans are not an artist's best friends. We are *not* part of her private life. Of course her life will be reflected on her work but I really think especially in her case it can be done much more artistically and skillfully than "look at my bf, isn't he cute af??? blue eyes etc... he gives me babies". It feels uncomfortable.

Expressing personal and private subjects is extremely common in art.

And it's just 1 song for pete's sake, she doesn't even do it this often.

And lastly, you can still relate to a song that has personal lyrics, because usually those songs will have a certain theme to them that's relatable.

"Lucky that you were born in the South [Argentina] and that we can erase the distance"

ALL songwriters have songs talking about their lives. I'm dead at people saying that that somehow makes them uncomfortable? Like?? Sorry that you can't have babies or whatever, did you feel uncomfortable too when the song was about having small breasts because you couldn't relate to being female? I get not liking the song, but some reasons are just pure reach.

It won't. Production is good, lyrics are silly.

I don't mind if she adresses her personal life in her songs, I just don't like the way she did it. The lyrics are too basic, literal and not inspiring at all. I could have come up with the same lines.

Even Chantaje had more creative lyrics.

It's not supposed to be "heartfelt" though. It's about a first meeting, drinking and lust at first sight and the need to get to know the other person better than just a night. Mariposas is about a more emotional love and overcoming obstacles and planning a life together.

Well I don't get sexy vibes either. xD

Can we please have another director for the music video?

Or am I being plain stupid and gullible?

I wonder if she'll ever make another video filmed by someone who's not Jaume.

I also wonder if she has already learned Catalan.

Yeah plz bring the next single lol this song is low-key annoying. Like Spanish is not my native language and I understand most the lyrics clearly. I usually have to read the lyrics first, like chantaje took a bit for me to hear well I hear this song clearly which means the song has no spunk and basic lyrics. I feel like we got this song bc chantaje has been declared the lead single. Shakira is stuck on the "banger" sexy 1st single, heartfelt/slower second single, banger 3rd single etc method and I don't know why. She wolf was the only era where she tried to break the mold. She knows this won't be huge and hopefully like "sale el sol" be short lived before releasing the 3rd single. I honestly would've preferred a killer ballad at least empire snatched my wig upon first listen bc of her vocals. This song sounded nice n cute at first but I'm already over it lol This is a 4th/5th single song not 2nd n that's the problem here. This makes the second time I've not liked a shakira single, crtfy was the first but at least that song grew on me, this song no lol

I like it. What's up with all the fuss? Enjoy the damn song. However, I feel like this will need a killer video to become a hit. If i'm not mistaken, this is climbing the charts waaay slower than Chantaje & La Bicicleta, which is understandable since the general public doesn't really differentiate between buzz singles and the actual single. Let's just hope the video is as remarkable as it can be.

Y al ardor los ańos,
Amor se llama el juego
En el que un par de ciegos

Watch the video be a collection of Shakira & Pique footage Jaume has filmed over the years, with a few new scenes of Shakira singing. Lol

It's funny how some people are confused as to why some others don't like the song and seriously, I get it... shes having fun but in terms of music, this is one of Shakira's most cringeworthy tunes in terms of lyrics, music production and creativity, especially when it's put right next to her amazing repertoire of different music styles and I think the numbers, comments on the lyric video and tweets about it speak for themselves when it comes to how most of the general public think about it.
Here's to hoping the video saves it though but I honestly don't see her working with a different director and that's worrisome. Oh well this still gets me excited about her new album nonetheless!
