She hasn't toured since 2011, she hasn't released a spanish language album since 2011. She needs to re-introduce herself to younger audiences before the new era starts. It would be plain stupid to just drop an album because she's "Shakira" thinking it'll sell on its own. You all seem to forget how nasty, misogynist a nd ageist this business is.
I loved all of her collaborations so far. La Bicicleta brought her first Latin Grammy since 2010, Chantaje had crossover appeal and is a streaming monster, this will do well too. They'll help her to do well with her new era and sell tickets for her next tour.

Shakira doesn't need these collabs, on the contrary, they are showing her power in the (Latin) music industry after so many years. I do like Deja Vu and can remember the melody. I'm sure it'll be big as well. I think all this exposure is good for her prior to launching her album.

Im an irrational fan of Shakira and though i like some songs or collabs more than others i dont bother much about her loosing respect collaborating with average artists  I have any doubt about her artistry but we all know she is a mainstream artist, she plays  the rules of the market.

I do believe in her artistic drive and i am always hoping and waiting for a supergood song that becomes a worldwide smash hit (sean paul collab ? :) ),  like HDL, Suerte, WW, La Tortura, even Loca... and enjoying the uniqueness of SW, and Chantaje that is definetly a good song that makes Maluma interesting...(something quite difficult)

All this moral arguments about her choices to collaborate with mainstream artist and that she loosing her essence, and whats  her essence bla bla ....it is boring ( and yes Lil Wayne collab was forgettable)

So i prefer to be a litte more light and enjoy her music and success..

but to the point....  DEJA VU means she is not going to promote an own single like Sean Paul's or Nicky Jam's songs for next two months?  :(

You said most of what i was too lazy to say lol to add on it's 2017 shakira has proven herself as an artist she has been one for over a decade and ppl no longer care for "real" shakira anyway especially in the English market 😂 Only certain ppl can make heartfelt songs and sell i.e. Adele unfortunately shakira is not one of them so if you cant move to the song most likely it'll flop. She's being the spicy latin singer everyone expected her to be outside of L.A. lmaooo and at this point idc as long as she sounds good and makes them hits 😂

Yeah this song is too mellow and doesn't have hit potential (in my ears).

Bachata songs usually become hits when you can cut your veins in agony with it.

This is kindergarten bachata. And also, his voice has no depth plus the song doesn't really have a climax or anything.

Does the song have to be a hit for you to enjoy it?

To everyone who is wondering why it says royce & shakira or carlos & shakira ..its not because those songs are gonna be on her album but she is getting half of what song makes rather than getting fixed amount for being featured... she's gonna get a lot of money + a lot of promotion doing this collaborations, all while playing tennis in Barcelona 😂

No.

Most bachata songs I listen to aren't on radio and are not popular or "hits".

It's about the song being good. This song isn't. Most on here share that opinion though so that says something.

Alright, 'cause that's what it sounded like.

I don't know much about bachata so I can't compare. To me, the song is enjoyable and her vocals are nice and the lyrics are okay. :)

I agree that she's been doing great vocally. But the problem with this song is that it's bland. It doesn't take you anywhere. Pretty forgettable.

I'll post some examples of good non mainstream bachata when I learn how to do that. Lol

Deja Vu is going to be huge because the genre is very popular and Prince Royce himself is too, but I'm not sure if most of Shakira fans will enthusiasticly support the song. I'm looking forward to the Comme Moi video instead!

Prince Royce has been kind of underperforming ever since he attempted that crossover tho. He only got that one hit with Pitbull and J.Lo and that was it!

The song was barely a hit, if I recall it peaked at 98 on the charts.

Well, the World Cup Finale was on July 13th. By July 16th they probably figured the era had ended lol!

And the Prince Royce song was a hit in Latin America, although it failed to do what it was trying to do!

You don't measure a Latin song success by looking at main US American charts. The song was mid-sized hit though.

Finally listened to the song

I didn't expect it to sound so... sentimental? I didn't know Bachata was a slow dance genre.

Anyway, Shakira's voice is really nice on it. And the song itself is cute.

I'm honestly warming up to Jaume's videos. They feel cheap at first, but they have tons of replay value.

The only thing i'm concerned about is that he has 2 videos to edit at the moment, so we probably won't hear about them again until May lmao!

He has gotten better. I guess 10 years of Shakira fans hating him has pushed him to improve. Lol

We criticized him so much for his close-ups and finally we are getting a better mix of filming shots.

I think it is a decent song. I think it could be somewhat of a hit in Spanish speaking countries. Maybe nothing extraordinary in the English speaking parts of the world, but not a bad song, nonetheless.
